Joomla WYSIWYG editors

June 04, 2010 Blog by Edit
editorWYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editors are one of Joomla distinctive advantages over other Content Management Systems - they let you edit your pages without any knowledge in HTML. If you can edit a document on Word you will have no problem doing it in Joomla.

There are good and better editors for Joomla :

TinyMCE is the built in Joomla WYSIWYG editor. It does the work but missing few key features such as linking to internal pages and files.

Another editor that fills the gap is JCE. The most popular WYSIWYG editor for Joomla (and it's free).

Important Parameters in JCE :

Cleanup - When copying text into Joomla from Word, text files or the internet you also copy the design parameters resulting in a 'dirty' HTML code that is not always visible on the front end
but can mess up your design and give Google the wrong ideas about the page.

The Cleanup feature cleans the code for you, leaving only the text.

Formatting - The way the editor reacts when hitting 'Enter'. You can choose between a Break Line or a new Paragraph.

This choice has an important design and practicality meaning - paragraphed texts on computer screens are better read.

One last thing...

JCE doesn't work smoothly with Chrome and Internet Explorer - run it on Firefox and it's a lion :)

That goes for any other joomla extension, if it doesn't work just try it with Firefox!
